Episode 19 – JRebel Jevgeni Kabanov “Bares All” for the Basement Coders

Zero Turnaround's JRebel

All this bus needs is a pole

Jevgeni, Justin, Jeff, Craig(bottom)

You know when you meet someone and you automatically "click"? Well, that's how the Basement Coders felt when they met the Zero Turn Around (ZTA) folks at the JavaOne conference. Both Jeff and Justin had met Jevgeni, founder and developer at Zero Turn Around a month ago at JavaZone in Oslo.

Java Road Trip BusJevgeni (@ekabanov), Toomas (@toomasr), Oliver, David and the rest of the ZTA gang are a fun bunch of talented people who've created a product called "JRebel" (@javarebel). Essentially it allows us folks who develop against the JVM to not have to restart/rebuild our application every-single-time-we-make-a-stinking-change! You don't know how much of a win this is until you've wasted half a day building your code and restarting your application server so you can get the spacing on some <div> just right.

We were actually granted the chance to do this interview from the back of the Java Road Trip bus, which was pretty damn awesome not only for it's luxurious interior but for the sound proofing we would not have otherwise enjoyed from the noisy Java One venues.

So let me just re-iterate how great it was meeting the ZTA folks! Hope you enjoy the interview, and hopefully you can forward it to your boss so they'll get you a license for JRebel!

About the Author

Craig Tataryn started his career as a Visual Basic programmer, but don't hold that against him! The system he helped create was a cutting edge, n-tiered revenue collection system whose transactions per second metric was off the charts! Around the year 2000 he discovered Struts and never looked back. A professional Java developer for close to a decade, Craig has worked on a wide variety of projects ranging from Recruiting, Purchase order, Revenue collection and Mortgage systems. More recently Craig has written web services for children's educational toys and has honed his skills on Wicket, SOA and iOS application development. "I love to learn and more importantly I love to teach. Hoarding knowledge is one of the most petty and selfish things you can do, especially as a contractor. This is why I always make it a point to document and share my knowledge with my client's employees"

Great podcast guys! Where the heck was I for that bus ride? Somewhere with the booth girls perhaps? ;)

Yeah, I’m failing to understand why you sent Jevgeni in shirtless, there were definitely better candidates at your booth ;)
